Darien's Hindley Elementary Principal DJ Collela has been placed on leave, the district told parents in a letter sent last month.
Although the details concerning his leave were not released, the school is apparently looking into his conduct as a principal.
Collela was appointed to on July 1, 2016. Before the appointment, he worked as a fifth-grade teacher for 10 years, a sixth-grade science teacher for five years and as the assistant principal at Somers Middle School in Northern Westchester.
In the letter to parents, interim Schools Superintendent Elliott Landon wrote, “it is with sadness that I must report to you that your Principal, DJ Colella, will be on leave at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.”
Julie Droller has been appointed the new interim principal for the school year.
Droller, who was a K-5 literacy coordinator is a “visionary leader and lifelong learner with over 20 years of experience in education,” Landon wrote.
No other information was provided.
